We recently had the pleasure of visiting Integrated Family Community Services (IFCS) with a toothbrush and floss pack donation for kids. When we arrived we were shown where all the items are held, sorted and put onto shelves for families to take. There were extremely friendly volunteers sorting through huge food donations that they had recently received from food drives hosted by local businesses and groups. When we were shown the shopping area for families, it was clear that hygiene products were lacking. A handful of toothpaste boxes and adult toothbrushes were available however, kids’ toothbrushes were completely gone. It was truly rewarding to see the void our donation was filling, as well as how many children would be positively impacted by it. During our visit, there was a mom and son shopping. One of the volunteers took a toothbrush pack over to him and his face lit up. It is moments like these that make our jobs worth while. At times we don’t realize how much a simple toothbrush can mean to someone.
IFCS was founded in 1964 with the mission to provide basic human services and enrichment programs to low-income family members. This organization is funded by donations from individuals, businesses, community organizations, congregations, special events, foundation grants, and federal, state and local government support. IFCS prides itself in providing a “hand-up” by giving motivation, incentive, and by providing services not available elsewhere in Arapahoe County to families in need. They run several different programs throughout the year, such as their back-to-school and holiday events, however, they are best-known for their food and clothing markets. Families are able to come shop all sorts of different food items, as well as other necessary hygiene products.
IFCS accepts donations ranging from food, clothing, school supplies, financial donations and much more. They are also welcoming new volunteers to help with events held throughout the year, as well as more day to day opportunities.
