How Do Veneers Work?

Most celebrities are known for their gorgeous smiles. How do they do it? Is it just good genetics? Most of them have veneers! These porcelain shells hide any imperfections and create perfectly even, bright smiles. At our office, we offer two kinds of veneers that transform your appearance. How do veneers work?

What Are Veneers & What Do They Fix?

Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that bond to the front of your teeth, transforming their look. We use veneers to close small gaps between teeth, cover chips and cracks, and change a tooth’s shape. Veneers also cover discolored teeth and resist stains, so you don’t need to keep whitening your smile.

Veneers vs. Lumineers

Both veneers and Lumineers are thin porcelain shells, but they’re slightly different. With traditional veneers, we prepare your teeth by shaving off some of your enamel. This allows the veneers to sit flush against your teeth. The veneers are created by a lab, so each one is custom-made for your smile.

Lumineers are thinner than regular veneers, so we don’t need to remove any of your enamel. We bond Lumineers like regular veneers, but because your natural tooth is intact, we can remove the Lumineers if necessary. If you want the benefits of veneers but don’t want a permanent treatment, Lumineers are the way to go.

Can Anyone Get Veneers?

We can’t put veneers on severely decayed or damaged teeth. If you have untreated gum disease, the shells aren’t a good idea either. We’ll work with you to improve your oral health before considering cosmetic dentistry.
