Dental insurance can be confusing to wrap your head around. But if you’ve got it, you want to make sure that you make the most of your benefits. Here at Summit Family Dentistry, we accept a range of different dental insurance plans. Read on for some tips and advice to make the most of your dental benefits.

Don’t Skip Your Cleanings

Make sure you know what’s covered on your dental plan so that you actually take advantage of everything that’s included. Most plans cover two cleanings and exams per year. These are important visits, and if you’re paying for insurance then you’re paying for them. Now’s a good time to schedule your visits so you won’t forget to take advantage of these and any other covered procedures .

Seek Timely Treatment

Keeping your teeth clean and healthy will help you avoid more complicated procedures down the road. Not only will you avoid the headache of serious procedures, but it will save you money too. Insurance plans are structured to favor preventive care. That means that preventive care will typically be covered in full. From there, more basic work may drop down to something like 80%. And major procedures will only be covered at a 50% rate. The more serious the work, the more it’s going to cost you out of pocket.

Consider Your Annual Maximum

Your dental insurance plan will have an annual maximum up to which treatment will be covered. There’s no rollover when the plan resets at the end of the year. Bear this in mind when scheduling treatments and plan accordingly in order to maximize what’s covered by your plan.
