Are you looking to improve your smile? At Summit Family Dentistry in Littleton, CO, we’re excited to offer our patients two treatments to give them a dazzling smile: teeth whitening and porcelain veneers. Here, we’ll explain the difference between these two treatments that will light up your smile.

Types of Porcelain Veneers

Dental veneers are thin shells of tooth-colored porcelain that are bonded to your teeth. We offer both traditional veneers and Lumineers®. With traditional veneers, your teeth are prepared for the bonding by having a portion of the tooth enamel removed so that the veneers will fit on top. Next, we make impressions of your teeth so we can send them to our dental lab for the custom made veneers. Once we’ve received the veneers we’ll bond them to your teeth and you’ll have a new and improved smile. We also offer Lumineers, a type of porcelain veneer that is thinner than traditional veneers and doesn’t require the removal of any tooth enamel. Unlike traditional veneers, Lumineers can also be removed if need be since no enamel was removed from the natural teeth.

Types of Teeth Whitening

At Summit Family Dentistry, we are proud to offer our patients three different teeth whitening options. The first is at-home whitening. For this treatment, we’ll provide you with take-home whitening trays and professional strength whitening gel so that you can whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home. We offer both one-size whitening trays and custom whitening trays. The second option is KöR® Deep Bleaching System, a whitening treatment that begins in the office and then continues at home with custom trays and bleaching gel. The last option is ZOOM!® One-Visit Whitening, which can lighten your smile up to eight shades in one hour-long visit.

Teeth Whitening vs. Porcelain Veneers

While teeth whitening is used for the single purpose of making your teeth brighter and whiter, there are a number of reasons why you might need or want porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers can be used to do more than just change the color of your teeth. They can also change the shape, lengthen teeth, close small gaps between teeth, and cover a chipped or cracked tooth. Porcelain veneers are a much more significant financial investment than teeth whitening. The cost depends on the type that you decide to get and how many individual veneers you need. Teeth whitening costs vary too, depending on the type of whitening that you choose.
